   Crucial game of the 2-hour 25-minute final came at 2-all in the 3rd set when Federer fought off a triple break point (Roddick took another game on serve after 7 deuces). Federer won seven games in a row from 5-all in that set and almost got another game – the American withstood first match point serving at 0:5 in the 4th set. It was Roddick’s first major being coached by the five-time US Open champion Jimmy Connors. They cooperated at six majors in total, never reaching the final again… ‘2006’ it was the first year in history that in both, men’s & women’s tours, the same player reached all four major finals: Federer & Justine Henin-Hardene.
