    Points won by each set: | 55-52, 42-41… |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    12 % Nadal – 11 of 87
    14 % Zverev – 15 of 103

It would have been an epic semifinal if Zverev [3] had won the 2nd set… it’s really amazing that they didn’t finish two sets, yet they spent more than three hours on the court! It was 3:03h when Nadal [5] attacked the net, won the point after Zverev’s FH error and the German began screaming – he sprained his right ankle trying to reach the ball. He left the court on a wheelchair and came back a few minutes later with the help of crutches only to shake hands the umpire and hug his 11 years older opponent. Actually it was a match of wasted chances for the German: he led 6:2* in the 1st set tie-break having saved three set points before it (at 6:4 Nadal played an amazing FH passing-shot on the run), in the 2nd set when they both were already visibly tired (rallies slower & longer), he led *5:3 (30/15) when committed 2 double faults within three points. After the 10/8 opener, Nadal was totally wet, he needed to leave the court to change his attire. Before the match, Zverev had an excellent 10-2 record in tie-breaks of 2022. “Hey guys! I am now on my way back home. Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot,” he wrote in an Instagram post the day after the semifinal. “I will be flying to Germany on Monday to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover.”

    Serve & volley: Nadal 4/6, Zverev 1/4

Zverev returns to action at the beginning of 2023; at Roland Garros ’24 he faces Nadal in the first round (!) and takes his revenge 6-3, 7-6, 6-3… he’s No. 4 while Nadal No. 275
