After a 3-hour 35-minute victory over his countryman Canas, Puerta [37] needed 3 hours 29 minutes to beat Davydenko [12] in his another match on Philippe Chartier court in which second consecutive comeback from a two-sets-to-one deficit was required from him. Very similar outcome of the last two sets in both encounters, in terms of the scoreline (one break made the difference), but the semifinal turned into a much tougher affair. Puerta had controlled the last two sets against Canas, but facing the Russian, who dictated the pace, the Argentinian trailed (*2:3, 15/30 in the 4th & 2:4* in the 5th set). He was also a break down (2:3) in the opening set… The first out of four Davydenko’s major semifinals – in the next three he faces Federer on each occasion, always losing in straight sets.
