  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 39-31, 26-33, 31-28, 29-22 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    9 % Nadal – 11 of 120
    14 % Federer – 17 of 119

The first of their five Roland Garros matches. On paper it was a very open contest – the birthday-boy [5] Nadal played his first major semifinal, Federer [1] was on an 11-match winning streak having defeated very good clay-courters, and had won in five sets their previous meeting (Miami). But Nadal was a different animal on clay, from the beginning he managed to return almost all Federer’s serves and broke him four times in the opener. In the 2nd set the Swiss already led 5:1. There was 4-all (30-all) in the 3rd set when the serving Nadal got a point with a heavy forehand on Federer’s backhand, and established his supremacy over the Swiss not only in that match, but in their entire rivalry on Philippe Chatrier court. He converted the third set point with an amazing transition from defence to attack, came back from *1:3 in the 4th set and the rest is history…

    Serve & volley: Nadal 0, Federer 5/9
