    Points won by each set: | 44-52, 44-45, 32-22, ^34-36 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    35 % McEnroe – 61 of 172
    27 % Lendl – 37 of 137

The match lasted 3 hours 54 minutes… McEnroe [6] was *1:4, 5:6 (0/30) in the 2nd set (also 3:5* in the tie-break) and saved five break points in his last three service games of the match. ^ At 4-all in the 4th set, Lendl [1], having squandered a triple mini-set point, exploded – he called a lines-woman “[…] stupid lady!” – got a point penalty for that. He couldn’t agree with Gerry Armstrong’s decision, refused to play & he was penalized for the delay again – lost the 9th game in the consequence. Lendl the recidivist, had received a game-penalty for the same offense also a day before during his marathon win over Jakob Hlasek. It was 15th and McEnroe’s ultimate victory over Lendl. The Czecho(Slovak) player won their last six meetings, preventing Big Mac from entering event a tie-break!

Lendl had been involved in seven tie-break sets within eight (Hlasek + McEnroe), afterwards he played 31 sets without a tie-break!
