A full serve-and-volley match, only a few baseline rallies. Despite three tie-break sets lost, Sampras [3] didn’t put himself in a serious position to win any of those sets – in sets 2 & 4 he was serving second always chasing, in set no. 1 he was serving first, but Stich [15] easily held at 4:5 & 5:6. The German comfortably won all tie-breaks (7/2, 7/5, 7/3), in the mid-one he already led 6:3; there was a controversial decision on his third set point, his second serve could have been long, but no-one called it. Sampras had break points in two different games at the beginning of the first two sets, in the 4th set Stich finally broke, he led 5:2* (deuce) – Sampras levelled being two points away from defeat in three consecutive games. The following year they play another four-setter & Stich deals better with tie-breaks again #
