   Match no. 14 of their extraordinary rivalry, and for the first time they both were close to the finishing line at the same time. At 4-all in the decider Djokovic [3] was not closer than 7 points away. In the following game, serving, he had saved a match point, then Nadal [2] played very good passing-shot being a point away from 5 games apiece. On the second match point the Serb missed a banal overhead (his second overhead in that commanding rally) – the rest of his career proved it wasn’t an unusual mistake. Very important match in retrospect, it were the first Olympics for them both, Djokovic has never played an Olympic final (lost three times in the semifinals) which is a huge blow in an Olympic comparison to two other greatest players of the Open Era: Nadal (gold in singles 2008, gold in doubles 2016) and Federer (gold in doubles 2008, silver in singles 2012). “For me it’s a dream to be in this final,” Nadal said. “When I arrived here, I didn’t expect be in the final. I was very tired, with a lot of matches and not playing my best tennis.”
