   Shocking scoreline of the night session contest, especially given Edberg [3] had won their two previous matches easily. Even more shocking progress of the match because Edberg led 2:0* in the first two sets, in the 2nd set he had a double break point at 2:0 after 37-year-old Connors [15] had lost a game not playing a point on Edberg’s serve! The chair umpire Ings first warned Connors for verbal abuse (he said “fuck” facing a break point in the opening game of the set), then issued a point penalty when Connors swatted a tennis ball directed at the umpire’s chair. The game penalty was called by Ings for unsportsmanlike conduct when Connors continued his verbal abuse. Despite the nervous atmosphere, Connors did a shake-hand with the umpire after the match.
