  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 35-29, 28-16, 45-45 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    27 % Norman – 31 of 112
    22 % Hewitt – 19 of 86

On paper it was a fascinating match-up because the 19-year-old Hewitt [17] began the season claiming two titles while Norman [11] suggested in 1999 that he was on the rise, hungry to finally make a breakthrough at Slams. The first two sets shocked, the Swede overwhelmed the local favourite with powerful baseline game. In the 3rd set Hewitt led 5:2* when Norman erased a set point with a forehand winner. Another set points came at 6:5 (forced error when Hewitt stumbled & service winner). In the tie-break Norman led 6:4, at 6-all Hewitt committed a double fault risking his second serve, his trademark in the next few years when he became the best in the world.
