Second major final between Sampras & Pioline, the previous one occurred at the US Open ’93: Sampras won 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 after 2 hours 4 minutes in New York, this time he needed 1 hour 34 minutes displaying phenomenal service performance. Pioline, similarly to Mecir, lost quickly two major finals to the best player of a decade (Mecir to Lendl).
