Points won by each set: | 28-23, 26-31, 33-27, 31-21 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
46 % Pioline – 47 of 102
38 % Rusedski – 46 of 118
Rusedski belonged to the best servers of the second half of the 90s but he didn’t get good results at Wimbledon – just one quarterfinal, and his serve deserted him. Already in the opening game Rusedski committed two straight double faults, and for the rest of the match he was struggling to hold. Pioline got decisive breaks in sets 3 & 4 thanks to amazing returns off Rusedski’s fast first serves: at 1-all in the 3rd (forehand) and in the 1st game of the 4th set (backhand).
