Points won by each set: | 28-23, 26-31, 33-27, 31-21 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
46 % Pioline – 47 of 102
38 % Rusedski – 46 of 118

Rusedski belonged to the best servers of the second half of the 90s but he didn’t get good results at Wimbledon – just one quarterfinal, and his serve deserted him. Already in the opening game Rusedski [27] committed two straight double faults, and for the rest of the match he was struggling to hold. Pioline [44] got decisive breaks in sets 3 & 4 thanks to amazing returns off Rusedski’s fast first serves: at 1-all in the 3rd (forehand) and in the 1st game of the 4th set (backhand).
