Incredibly fast-paced five-setter, lasted only 2 hours 33 minutes. They both were serving the 1st serves with a 185 km/h average speed. There were four games with break points in the no-break opening set (two for each player) & Sampras needed four set points to win the tie-break 9/7 (at 7-all he played his first forehand winner, on return). The decisive break of the match came in the 2nd game of the 5th set when Ivanisevic missed an easy forehand volley. The Croat went through the 2nd set not dropping a point on serve, but was broken at 15 already in his first service game of the 3rd set. In the sets he won, he broke at 4-all and 3-all respectively.
