The longest fifth set in Wimbledon quarterfinals since John Newcombe beat Roy Emerson 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 in 1970! There was 4-all in the 4th set. In the final set, Gasquet led *5:3 (30/15), then saved a mini-match point at 9-all with a service winner. Just their third pro meeting (never met as juniors), the previous one Wawrinka won in five sets at Roland Garros ’13 – a match that lasted 4 hours 16 minutes: Gasquet, after winning the opening two sets, was two games away from winning the next three! The Frenchman squandered 5 mini-match points in three different games of the sets 4 & 5 then.
