This match was like a magical déjà vu. I couldn’t believe how it was possible that the second year in a row, on the same court, Djokovic saved a double match point against the multiple champion [3] of the US Open. Circumstances were even more extraordinary than a year before because in 2011 Federer had a double match point on his own serve, at 5:3 after three points easily obtained with his serves – then Djokovic [1] played a forehand return winner off Federer’s first serve and raised his hands encouraging the crowd in seemingly hopeless situation. Federer made a forehand mistake on the second match point and a few minutes later it was a game over for him; what’s even more extraordinary, he’ll lose to Djokovic having a double match point on serve 8 years later in the Wimbledon final (!)… In the 9/7 opener he needed five set points (led 6:3 & 7:6 in the tie-break).

Serve & volley: Djokovic 0, Federer 1/2
