  1. Voo de Mar says:

Points won directly behind the serve:

The US Open ’05 switched to blue courts after many years (since 1978) on green hardcourts, while continuing to use DecoTurf (green preserved around the blue courts though). The 35-year-old [7] Agassi led *4:2 (30/0) in the 3rd set of that 2-hour 20-minute final & he was three points away from winning that pivotal set at 5:4. Agassi’s 90th and last final (60-30 record). Federer [1] became the first man since 1987 to reach all four major semifinals within a calendar year. He had defeated Agassi on the same court also a year before, but then needed five sets (similar progress of sets). “This certainly isn’t easy to do at any age, especially 35,” Agassi said. “It’s been a privilege to compete against so many great champions over the last couple of decades or so. Without exception, Roger has been one of most enjoyable to compete against. Thank you New York for the last 20 years. It’s been a great ride.” It was the last US Open since 1988, with the exception in 1997, Agassi was among the favorites to win the title.

Federer’s route to his 32nd title:
    1 Ivo Minar 6-1, 6-1, 6-1
    2 Fabrice Santoro 7-5, 7-5, 7-6(2)
    3 Olivier Rochus 6-3, 7-6(6), 6-2
    4 Nicolas Kiefer 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4
    Q David Nalbandian 6-2, 6-4, 6-1
    S Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 7-6(0), 4-6, 6-3
    W Andre Agassi 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-1
