  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 41-37, 34-25 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    36 % Federer – 24 of 65
    22 % Roddick – 16 of 72

Vital meeting in their rivalry. Admittedly Federer [1] already led 7:1 afterwards, but their Wimbledon final which had been played one month earlier was consisted of four balanced sets, so there was still a hope they’d co-produce great shows in the years to come. In the Canadian Open final Federer triumphed quite easily though, initiating a streak of four one-sided finals against the American [2], winning in the meantime 13 sets in a row (!), stretching the streak between the finals of Wimbledon ’04 and US Open ’06. Federer created an aura of invincibility then; it was his 23rd match won in a row, and what’s more impressive – his fourth successive title on third different surface within a month, following Halle / Wimbledon on grass and Gstaad on clay. That match brutally showed that even though Roddick was still considered as the biggest server, facing Federer he could be not only out-played from the back of the court, but out-served too – Federer simply figured out Roddick’s service patterns in their first few confrontations, and was able to perfectly block Roddick’s bombs down the T on deuce-court. At 4-all in the 1st set, the Swiss fought off a triple mini-set point with three consecutive aces and finished the final with much better serve statistics; Federer reading Roddick’s serve like an open book it will be a feature of their many upcoming meetings.

Federer’s route to his 19th title:
    1 Hicham Arazi 6-3, 7-5
    2 Robin Soderling 7-5, 6-1
    3 Max Mirnyi 7-6(3), 7-6(4)
    Q Fabrice Santoro 7-5, 6-4
    S Thomas Johansson 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
    W Andy Roddick 7-5, 6-3

    Serve & volley: Federer 1/4, Roddick 0/1
