   The first match in their quite long rivalry in which Edberg was ranked higher [1 vs 3]. The Czechoslovak had a game point leading 4:2 in the 2nd set, two mini-match points at 4:3 (Edberg saved the second one with an ace) and twice was three points away from the final as he led 5:4 (15/0) and *4:3 in the 4/7 lost tie-break. In the 3rd set (five games won at ‘love’) Edberg withstood a triple break point and another adv-BP serving to close the match out.
