  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 37-27, 30-35, 29-22 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    26 % Costa – 22 of 84
    15 % Berasategui – 15 of 96

Four years before claiming the French Open title, Costa [20] was perhaps in a form of his life: after triumphing in Hamburg, he won five matches in a row with relative ease in Rome, advancing to another big clay-court final. Unfortunately he suffered a minor injury of his right wrist in the first point of the last game against Berasategui [13] and having in prospect “the best of five” match against in-form opponent as well as the upcoming Roland Garros, he decided to withdraw from the Roman final. His attempted opponent in the end-game – Rios – ruined Costa’s dream of conquering Roland Garros ’98 defeating him in four sets in the fourth round.

    Serve & volley: Costa 2/2, Berasategui 0
