  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 25-10, 24-10, 35-40, 40-29 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    20 % Costa – 21 of 102
    16 % Ferrero – 18 of 111

Very strange 2-hour 30-minute final, an example how a short rain break may distract a player. [11] Ferrero was a slight favorite as a two-time semifinalist of two previous editions (both semifinals lost to the eventual champion – Gustavo Kuerten). [22] Costa won 11 games in a row from 1-all in the 1st set (it happened after a 25-minute rain-break). Ferrero began playing again his normal tennis as the 3rd set kicked off. There was 4-all in that set when he got three straight games and had two break points to lead 2:0 in the 4th set. Costa won the last three games breaking his younger opponent twice, the second time after Ferrero’s double fault.

Costa’s route to his 12th and last title:
    1 Richard Gasquet 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, 6-3
    2 Nikolay Davydenko 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-2
    3 Andrea Gaudenzi 7-6(2), 6-1, 7-5
    4 Gustavo Kuerten 6-4, 7-5, 6-4
    Q Guillermo Canas 7-5, 3-6, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-0
    S Alex Corretja 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3
    W Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-1, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3

    In the almost 4-hour quarter-final, Costa trailed *2:4 (15/40) in the 4th set…
