   [1] Sampras’ magnificent performance – his serve and backhand were working so perfectly, he didn’t even bother to apply his offensive style. For Dosedel [51] it was career biggest result at the time. In the first round he trailed 4-6, 3:5 to Boetsch, when he saved two match points to win the last ten games of the match. In the quarterfinal he stunned two-time defending champion Courier (1-6, 6-3, 6-4)… Sampras already led 5:1* in the 2nd set when he actually didn’t try.
