   The defending champion Squillari [52] and Haas [19] met twice, both meetings in the Bavarian capital when the Argentine collected his first two titles (he won 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 their match a year before in the second round). The BMW ’00 final held in quite empty stands, was exceptionally short for clay (1 hour 11 minutes); there was just once ‘deuce’ when Squillari got the only break in the 3rd game of the 2nd set. In the opener he already led 5:1* (30-all). A few months later, Squillari wins his third and last ATP title, also in Germany (Stuttgart).
