Two 25-year-old players, former Top 10ers (Krickstein exactly two months older), but during the week Muster was No. 37 while Krickstein No. 24 so their first match in six years (the American won the first one 2-6 6-1 7-5) was absolutely unexpected when the event kicked off. The Austrian had difficult route to the final, but in his sixth match of the week he delivered magnificent tennis, Krickstein didn’t lead in any of sets. Muster explained that he needed massages before the final, he knew that had no chance in a five-setter against the marathon specialist, thanks to that played without any pressure and it fantastically kicked on.

Muster’s route to his 11th and last title:
1 Henri Leconte 3-6, 6-4, 6-3
2 Alexander Volkov 6-2, 4-6, 6-1
3 Guy Forget 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3
Q Mikael Tillstrom 6-3, 4-6, 6-3
S Arnaud Boetsch 7-5, 6-4
W Aaron Krickstein 6-3, 6-1, 6-3
