   # During this event, for the second time in his career (previously in 2000) Safin was enjoying fantastic form which will last more than three months to be ended with a loss to Taylor Dent (Indian Wells ’04). Admittedly Safin [9] was broken twice (trailed *1:3 in 2nd set), but he was serving great & controlled the final outcome throughout, being close to win the last set 6-1. Bizarre match in terms of stats – no volley & overhead winners even though both players were hitting those strokes in the final quite regularly. They will play on the same court against each other in 2006, in the quarterfinal, Nalbandian [10] wins 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
