  1. Voo de Mar says:

    Points won by each set: [ 26-8, 34-21, 36-28 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    30 % Davydenko – 25 of 81
    22 % Hrbaty – 16 of 72

It seemed like a lifetime opportunity for them both – very experienced players without a big title, Davydenko [5], only 25 y.o. but already bald, was playing his main-level event No. 164, while three years older Hrbaty [27] entered his 270th event (out of 304)! Both had relatively easy route to the final (Hrbaty defeated i.a. 7-6, 6-0 a teenager Murray), their previous match was a five-setter so the conclusion of the final rather shocked. Sometimes happens when two players with similar game-styles without huge serves, face each other on a day one of them does everything better and then the scoreline is one-sided because the other guy cannot propose a plan B – it was this case. Hrbaty was lucky to be seeded (with untypical no. 17), avoiding a first round match because several players ranked higher withdrew. “This is amazing,” said Davydenko. “Winning a Masters Series for the first time is important and being number three in the world behind players such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is quite an achievement.”

Davydenko’s route to his 10th title:
    2 Christophe Rochus 6-0, 6-0
    3 Dmitry Tursunov 6-2, 6-2
    Q Mario Ancic 6-3, 6-3
    S Tommy Robredo 6-3, 5-7, 6-2
    W Dominik Hrbaty 6-1, 6-2, 6-2
