   An indicator what was coming at the top of men’s tennis… Courier was the best player in the world then, yet his one year younger compatriot [3] defeated him rather easily, just like a year before on the same court (6-3, 7-6). Sampras needed breaks at 2-all in the opener and at 3-all in the 2nd set. He didn’t drop a point in his three opening service games.

   Sampras three points away from a loss to Becker; he defended his title beating the same players in the last two matches, but in a reverse order
