  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 25-22, 38-33, 36-26 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    35 % Henman – 32 of 89
    24 % Federer – 22 of 91

In terms of the gamestyle, the young Federer [13] looked like a copy of Henman [11] – at the beginning of the 21st Century each of them could be described as an offensive player with a good serve, impeccable volley technique, but not a pure serve-and-volleyer. Henman had won six of their first seven meetings before Federer turned the tables changing his style, and the Basel final belongs to those matches in which Henman felt simply slightly better in every basic area of tennis craftsmanship (the serve, ground-strokes, the net). The only optimistic moment for the 20-year-old Swiss appeared as he led 1:0* (40/15) in the 2nd set, but he didn’t convert his chances and lost his serve at 3-all. Amazingly easy tournament for Henman overall; no-one got five games in a set against him, he was broken just once (vs Moya). His second title in Basel, three years earlier he had to work much harder.

Henman’s route to his 8th title:
    1 Antony Dupuis 6-4, 6-1
    2 Andrea Gaudenzi 6-2, 6-1
    Q Michel Kratochvil 6-0, 6-1
    S Carlos Moya 6-1, 6-4
    W Roger Federer 6-3, 6-4, 6-2

    # Comparison of Henman’s similar indoor Bo5 finals:
    Vienna 2000: Henman d. Haas 6-4, 6-4, 6-4… 1 hour 59 minutes… Total points: 100-83… Breaks: 3-0
    Basel 2001: Henman d. Federer 6-3, 6-4, 6-2… 1 hour 55 minutes… Total points: 99-81… Breaks: 4-0
