Points won by each set: | 26-31, 31-27, 27-22, 39-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
42 % Ivanisevic – 51 of 119
37 % Muster – 44 of 118
Intriguing final, only their second meeting, the first in three years # (ultimately they were tied at 3-3). Muster [9] had a tremendous support of the local crowd and he was serving better than ever, but Ivanisevic [12] was playing more efficiently at the net than usually (he missed two super easy FH volley nevertheless). Very little to separate them, and the final outcome was actually decided by a short period after the first hour of play when the Austrian led 4:3* and he lost then five straight games quickly (got 7 points losing 20… the Croat hit his first ground-stroke winner at 4-all 0/30 in the 2nd set).
Ivanisevic’s route to his 8th title:
1 Andrea Gaudenzi 6-1, 6-3
2 Thomas Buchmayer 6-3, 6-4
Q Byron Black 6-2, 6-1
S Petr Korda 6-4, 6-2
W Thomas Muster 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(3)
