   “The shortest match” at crucial stage of the US Open at Flushing Meadows: both players 5’8 (173 cm) – three-year age difference between them. Actually the last great match of the 25-year-old (at the time) Chang. In the next six years of his career, he won’t even play in the fourth round of a major. Very short five-setter also in terms of time, just 2:57 hrs at night session in gusty conditions on a new venue – Arthur Ashe Stadium… Prior to the 3rd set, Chang led 11-0 in H2H sets vs Rios (4-0 in matches). The American trailed *1:3 in the 1st set, he led 4:3* in the 4th set and there was 3-all in the 5th when he won the last three games. Serving for the match, Chang found himself at 15/40, but took the next four points. Chang 20-9 in five-setters afterwards (counting his match vs. Connors, RG ’91), snapped Rios’ 7-match winning streak when it came to the distance…
