  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 41-34, 52-51, 43-46, 48-42 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    36 % Becker – 65 of 177
    25 % McEnroe – 45 of 180

An epic 4-setter, one of the longest 4-set matches in the 90s # The year 1995 was the best in P.McEnroe’s tennis life – at the age of 29 he advanced to the Top 30 for the first time in his career. The US Open quarterfinal helped him a lot [42] to do this, but he was eager to repeat his sensational advancement to the Aussie Open semifinal four years before. He didn’t afraid Becker at all, nine months earlier McEnroe stunned Becker in Melbourne in straight sets, and was quite close to repeat it in New Haven (Becker survived 3-6, 7-6, 6-4). The German [4] miraculously won the 2nd set, he trailed 0:3 (deuce), 1:4 (BPs, six deuces), 2:5 (30-all), 3:5 (15/40), 4:5 (15/30). In the 3rd set he had a mini-match point as he led 4:3 (40/30). The 4th set could reflect the 2nd: McEnroe was close to win it being on the verge of defeat all the time – he saved a break point at 0:2, broke back in game no. 4, and saved break points in three more service games! In the third successive tie-break he came back from *2:5, saved the first match point, but ultimately Becker’s aggressive FH return and powerful serve, secured his semifinal birth. The tie-breaks: 7/2, 3/7, 8/6.
