Night session on Centre Court. That match initiated something which may be perceived in retrospect as one of the most memorable routes to a Grand Slam title: Agassi [20] defeated six potentially Top 10 players in a row {their highest ranking}: Forget {4}, Ferreira {6}, Chang {2}, Muster {1}, Martin {4}, Stich {2}. Admittedly the 29-year-old Frenchman was ranked no. 108 at the time, but he was hungry coming back after a long knee injury, producing good results (Gstaad final), having played three major quarterfinals in his past four appearances at this level, so he was a dangerous opponent for the title contender, and he drew conclusions of their previous meeting when he’d been punished for conservative second serves # Agassi came back from *1:3 (deuce) in the 2nd set, but in the 3rd he wasted a 5:2* lead… there was 5:4* for him in the tie-break when Forget fired two big serves & converted his first set point with a BH return inside-out, having played only one BH winner before. The 4th set, similarly to the opener, was more balanced than the scoreline could indicate – Forget had points to win 4 games which he lost (two on serve, two on return).
# Comparison of their two similar 4-setters: Davis Cup 1991 (F): Agassi d. Forget 6-7, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2… 2 hours 51 minutes… Total points: 128-102 US Open 1994 (2R): Agassi d. Forget 6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2… 2 hours 47 minutes… Total points: 149-130
