   For the first time in history of the Stockholm Open (18th edition) two Swedes met in the final: 22-year-old Wilander [4] and two years younger Edberg [3], both with aspirations to become the best player in the world soon. It was their fourth final against each other, and Edberg prevailed 3-0 for the second time following Australian Open ’85, albeit the scoreline was shocking – Edberg had barely survived his two previous matches while Wilander advanced to the final without serious troubles. Moreover, Edberg was struggling on serve at the beginning, winning each of his first three service games ‘5:3’. “I even played better than I did yesterday against Leconte,” Edberg said. “I didn’t think I would be able to do that.” Between 3:1* (deuce) in the 2nd set and 1:0* (30/0) in the 3rd, he won 16 points in a row! Wilander, coming off a seven-week sabbatical from tennis, took the outcome with humour. He left the stadium dressed in a strait-jacket and carried on a stretcher, headed for his bachelor party (he married Sonya Mulholland on January 3, 1987) “See you, Stefan, if I survive this,” Wilander shouted…
