  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 16-29, 37-24, 44-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    19 % Nadal – 17 of 86
    14 % Murray – 14 of 98

It was their first meeting in three years. When they had faced each other previously in Tokyo ’11 (final), Murray won 3-6, 6-2, 6-0; in Rome, Nadal snapped a 12-game losing streak to Murray (Nadal was *0:5 in the 1st set)! It drizzled throughout the night session quarterfinal. In the 3rd set Murray led *4:2 & 5:4 – Nadal managed to win 12 out of the last 13 points. Murray, for the second time at Foro Italico, lost 6-1, 3-6, 5-7 – (Juan Monaco, 2R in 2009, also 2:40h with one point fewer played), in both matches he was four points away from victory.

Nadal never before spent more than 8 hours on courts in his first three matches of an ATP tournament:
    2 Simon 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 (3:18 hrs)
    3 Youzhny 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 (2:44 hrs)
    Q Murray 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 (2:40 hrs)

Once before he’d won all his three openers in three-setters though (Rotterdam ’09):
    1 Bolelli 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 (2:26 hrs)
    2 Dimitrov 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 (2:26 hrs)
    Q Tsonga 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 (2:40 hrs)
