  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    35 % Nadal – 24 of 68
    26 % Dolgopolov – 18 of 67

“Always when you win a title, it’s special,” said Nadal. “In a 500 tournament, you don’t have a chance to play a lot of these in the calendar. The first edition of a big tournament like Rio, it’s a very important city in the world, and after coming back from injury, it always makes the victory a little more special.” Dolgopolov broke Nadal as the Mallorcan served for the match at 5:4 in the second set, but Nadal held on to claim victory in the ensuing tie-break. “Yesterday was a tough match,” said Nadal. “Pablo played a great match, playing very aggressive. I played too short yesterday and I gave him the chance to have control of the point from inside.” Before the 2nd set of the Rio final, Nadal was trashing Dolgopolov in all sets they had played. The Ukrainian avoided losing tenth straight easy set to Nadal, he did it on Nadal’s favorite surface, perhaps he built his confidence upon that, and won another two meetings against the Spaniard, both in dramatic fashion (Indian Wells ’14 & Queens Club ’15).

Nadal’s route to his 62nd title:
    1 Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 7-5
    2 Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-2
    Q Joao Sousa 6-1, 6-0
    S Pablo Andujar 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(10) – 2 m.p.
    W Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 7-6(3)
