Federer’s [2] toughest match en route to his lone French Open title. It was a bizarre encounter because Federer was actually playing very well from the beginning to the end, yet he had to save a mini-match point to avoid a 0-3 defeat! In the opening set he didn’t lose a point on serve, but ended up losing the tie-break 4/7. Mathematically it is possible to lose a TB set having won 10 points more, Federer won 6 more. In the 2nd set he led 4:2*… Then that famous forehand inside-out winner in the 3rd set occurred at 3:4 (30/40) to save a vital break point despite two casual forehand errors before. That shot completely rewrote the script – the Swiss took 15 of the last 17 games (including 5 in a row to finish the match). They played against each other 3 five-setters, Haas [63] won the first of them – the most dramatic one, lost another two.
