  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 46-39, 44-44, 53-52 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    26 % Federer – 37 of 138
    22 % Davydenko – 31 of 140

It’s really tough to comprehend how Davydenko didn’t even win a set! Admittedly there are examples when a player was closer to win all three sets he lost, yet Davydenko had great opportunities in each set:
1st set: had BP at 2:0, led 3:1* (30/0) & 4:2* (40/0) – Federer fought off the triple mini-set point with three powerful serves
    2nd set: led 5:4 (30/15) on serve
3rd set: led 5:2* (30/0), had two set points serving at 5:3, but made two FH errors in that longest game of the match, and wasted his third set point at 7:6 in the tie-break (Federer’s service winner). Federer won tie-breaks 7/5, 9/7… he will win two more Grand Slam semifinals in a similar style, so being at least two games to lose each set he won #

    # Comparison of Federer’s three GS semifinals (in paranthesis number of points away from losing each set):
    Roland Garros 2007: Federer d. Davydenko 7-5, 7-6, 7-6… 3 hours 1 minute… Total points: 143-135… (5-2-1)
    US Open 2009: Federer d. Djokovic 7-6, 7-5, 7-5… 2 hours 34 minutes… Total points: 119-105… (2-8-5)
    Wimbledon 2015: Federer d. Murray 7-5, 7-5, 6-4… 2 hours 7 minutes… Total points: 107-91… (7-7-7)
