Points won directly behind the serve:
18 % Henman – 16 of 87
19 % Chela – 15 of 78

Henman’s first & only advancement to the French Open 1/4 final was unexpected given clay as his least favorite surface & the fact he barely survived the first round (vs Cyril Saulnier). The more unexpected was his brilliant quarterfinal performance: career-best on clay & arguably his most impressive in a ‘best of 5’ format. The 30-year-old Briton played a perfect 1-hour 50-minute match against one of the biggest clay-court specialists to whom he’d easily lost their previous ‘best of 5’ encounter (at the US Open ’02). Henman became the last serve-and-volley player who reached the last four at Roland Garros…

# Chela the eternal quarter-finalist – he lost all his 11 quarterfinals of big events:
– French Open (2004, 2011) & US Open (2007)
– Indian Wells (2004, 2007); Miami (2002, 2007); Monte Carlo (2003); Hamburg (2005); Rome (2007) & Madrid (2003)
