  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 43-42, 49-45, 28-21 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    37 % Forget – 43 of 116
    34 % Edberg – 39 of 112

A defeat having an “insurmountable” lead is calculated at least once in career of each player who spends ten or more years on the professional courts. Edberg [3] suffered two defeats of this kind (another one in Cincinnati 1996 when he lost to Caratti 6-3, 4-6, 5-7 leading 4:0* in the decider). The first of them occurred when he was 26 y.o. at Bercy. In the 2nd set against Forget, Edberg led 4:0* (30/0) not being broken before. A few minutes later would be ‘7-6(5), 6-0’, but that 5th game turned into a marathon – there were 10 deuces (!), Forget [11] withstood 7 mini-match points, and the partisan crowd had an opportunity to be involved in the atmosphere. Admittedly Edberg led 5:1, but when Forget quickly cut off to one game advantage, the crowd got under Edberg’s skin. The Swede led *5:4 (40/15) when committed his first double fault. On the second MP he also missed the first serve, the second serve was conservative, Forget played an aggressive BH return, the ball touched the net-cord forcing Edberg’s volley error. The rest is history. The muffled Edberg played a poor tie-break (3/7) and leading 40/15 at 2-all in the decider, he missed an easy volley dropping four points in a row. Facing the second match point, he committed a double fault again…
