Points won by each set: | 32-37, 45-41, 30-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
40 % Janowicz – 42 of 105
28 % Murray – 28 of 100
A shocker that turned the relatively unknown 22-year-old Pole [69] into one of the most promising young players, born in the early 90s. He was playing his first ATP match against an elite player in front of a big crowd, but didn’t show any sings of nervousness, obtaining many free points thanks to fast serving (a lot of 1st serves 220-230 kph); nevertheless Murray [3] was on his way to notch a pretty comfortable straight sets victory. Having escaped from *4:5 (0/30) in the opener, the Brit led 5:3* in the 2nd set, and served “an ace” at 30/0 in the following game, but the ball touched the net-cord and instead of a triple match point the point was replayed. Janowicz won two points in a row, yet Murray had a match point at 40/30 which gone when he missed his forehand on 11th stroke. Janowicz broke back and took the tie-break 7/4 with the help of two unexpected dropshots. In the 3rd set Murray lost his serve at 1-all and afterwards he seemed like someone who wasn’t particularity interested in playing at 100% of commitment – the last game of the match was the longest, Janowicz fought off three break points before converting his 2nd MP with a forehand winner. It’s incredible that it was a third consecutive tournament in which Murray was defeated despite holding a match point (before it, he had not lost a set being a point from winning it more than two years!). # After the Janowicz’s loss, Murray will not lose another MP-up match for nine years (!) – it finally happens not only on the same court, but also on the same day (the 1st of November).
Dropshots: Janowicz 12/25, Murray 3/7
