  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 39-37, 28-23, 36-27 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    55 % Ivansievic – 55 of 99
    43 % Martin – 40 of 91

The first edition of the Compaq Grand Slam Cup held on a court with tramelines. Ivanisevic came to Munich having lost four consecutive matches. He got a check for $1.625 million… served 43 aces in his 4-set win over Kafelnikov, aces against Martin by each set: 10, 9, 9. The Croat finished the season with 1003 aces (he hit four in a row to finish the Grand Slam Cup final)! That tournament initiated Ivanisevic’s best period in his career which extended till Key Biscayne ’96 (in the meantime he played seven finals winning five of them; captured also the Hopman Cup title partnering Iva Majoli).

Ivanisevic’s route to his 12th title:
    1 Petr Korda 7-6(3), 6-3
    Q Pete Sampras w/o
    S Yevgeny Kafelnikov 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
    W Todd Martin 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-4
