   It was a breakthrough season for both young players: 21 y.o. Courier [5] and two years older Korda [40]. Between Wimbledon & US Open that year, Korda advanced from no. 71 to no. 15 (!) thanks to great Summer in North America (finals in Washington & Montreal followed by his maiden title in New Haven). In their first meeting, Courier was on his way to notch an easy win, but wasted a mini-match point at 4:2 in the 2nd set, another one at 5-all and lost the tie-break 1/7… Korda won several points with the help of the net-cord throughout the match and it animated both players; after one of those points, Korda was kneeling while Courier was lying on the ground.

   Serve & volley: Korda 2/5, Courier 3/5
