The best clay-court event for them both (the Croat equalled his best achievement – he’d played a few Mercedes Super 9 semifinals a year before). Prpic [33] paid the price for very tough roue to the semifinal – he played four 3-setters in a row while Krickstein [24] won all his matches easily (with the Pripic match, Krickstein went through four consecutive rounds beginning with a 6-1 set). Perhaps bad decision of the umpire made some impact on the final score, in the opener Prpic trailing 1:4 saved a break point with an ace (callled ‘out’ by the linesman), but the umpire mandated a replay.
