Nishikori [36] was sidelined for six months and when he returned in the American events, his form was far away from his best years. Then he moved to Europe, and unexpectedly advanced to the Monte Carlo final beating i.a. Cilic & A.Zverev after tough matches. Against “King of Clay” he had enough in the tank only in the opening set, but already in it he showed a couple of times that his legs didn’t work properly. “To put another trophy in my museum, in my academy, is going to be something great,” Nadal [1] said. “This is one of the most important ones in terms of [my] personal feeling.”

Nadal’s route to his 76th title (11th in Monaco!):
2 Aljaz Bedene 6-1, 6-3
3 Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-2
Q Dominic Thiem 6-0, 6-2
S Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-1
W Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-2
