The eighth edition of an invitational event “Norstar Bank Hamlet Challenge Cup” – turned into an ATP tourney two years later extending the draw from 16 to 28. It was a solid exhibition with a few Top 10 players participating year by year, so I’ve decided adding to my website a picture of arguably the most entertaining final of those exho-years 1981-89. The 18-year-old Agassi [4] was in unbelievable form at the time concerning his age, and needed 1 hour 32 minutes to dispose of Noah [7] in a match played in 90% humidity. “I played better in the semis than I did against Noah,” Agassi said. He trailed *3:4 in the 3rd set when won 12 of the last 13 points. “It was fun playing Agassi,” Noah said. “He makes you realize tennis is only a game and I enjoyed entertaining the crowd with him.” Agassi got a $40,000 winner check. Results of the whole event here.

    Agassi’s route to the title:
    1 David Pate 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4
    Q Jonas Svensson 7-5, 6-3
    S Boris Becker 7-6(1), 6-3
    W Yannick Noah 6-3, 0-6, 6-4
