Due to bad weather they both started playing in trousers (Sampras changed it to shorts during the 1st set)! Sampras [2] was serving below his standards, but he played a competitive match against one of the best clay-courters at the time which could be perceived as a good prediction of his French Open ’95 appearance (he’ll be shocked already in the first round though). The vital game occurred as they began the decider – Medvedev [20] broke after 6 deuces and put pressure on Sampras in all another service games of the American (they all went to at least one deuce). The Ukrainian hadn’t problems on his own serve and after almost two hours he notched the first victory over Sampras in five meetings (4 out of those 5 encounters went to the distance).
