    Leconte could have been perceived as a slight favourite despite much lower ranking cause he had won their two previous clay-court matches, including a dramatic semifinal on the same court two years before… Leconte [73] was coming back to his form in 1990 after a very bad 1989 season when he missed six months because of an injury. Each of sets had the same score, the progress of 2nd set was the most interesting – Leconte had a game point to lead 4:0, but Becker [3] cut the lead off to 3:4* (30/15). In the decider the Frenchman was the most willing to attack the net behind the serve, but this tactics didn’t succeed.
