   Surprising scoreline because when they met the previous time (Basel ’89), the teenage Courier won in circumstances less suitable to his game-style (hard indoors). Perhaps Edberg [3] made some vital adjustments and was able to win six consecutive games from 4-all in the opener. Courier [22] lost his temper and was warned for obscenity. # In the other game-wise similar semifinal there was the same scoreline, but more experienced European serve-and-volleyer lost to young American.

   Edberg d. Courier 6-4, 6-1… 1 hour 7 minutes… Total points: 60-48
   Agassi d. Becker 6-4, 6-1… 1 hour 8 minutes… Total points: 61-42
