  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 38-33, 34-25 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    39 % Berdych – 25 of 63
    32 % Baghdatis – 22 of 67

Roger Federer had won four consecutive editions of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle (2003-2006), but withdrew in 2007 due to tiredness after the French Open… It opened up a chance for other players. Two 22-year-old guys met in the final. Berdych [13] won his opening 14 service points, but at *4:5 he was forced to save two set points (FH error, FH winner) – it became a turning point in the match because the Czech took five successive games in total. In the 2nd set Baghdatis [18] created a break point to level at 5 games apiece, but Berdych responded with a service winner & converted first match point to capture his first title since Paris-Bercy in November 2005. “It feels fantastic to be back again and this time win it,” Berdych said. “But I feel sorry for Marcos that I had to beat him on his birthday of all days.” About 12,000 fans at center court sang “Happy Birthday” to Baghdatis, and organizers gave him a birthday cake. “I’ve never had anything like that before,” the Cypriot said. “And I will still celebrate my birthday and my mother will congratulate me.” Nine years later Baghdatis takes a revenge in Halle, beating Berdych 7-6 7-6 in the first round.

Berdych’s route to his 3rd title:
    1 Nicolas Kiefer 6-4, 7-6(3)
    2 Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 7-6(5)
    Q Mikhail Youzhny w/o
    S Jarkko Nieminen 7-6(5), 6-4
    W Marcos Baghdatis 7-5, 6-4
