   Lendl [2] was expected to win, but the scoreline was a total shocker, especially if we take into account the progress as well (it lasted just fifty minutes). Connors [3] had his chances in two games to avoid the double bagel – at 0:2 in 1st set when he should have actually won the point being at the net, the second time with a break point at 0:3 in the 2nd set – Lendl fired an ace down the T.

   Serve & volley: Lendl 1/1, Connors 0/1
