  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 27-15, 27-20, 37-26 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    41 % McEnroe – 28 of 67
    17 % Connors – 15 of 85

A period of the the most overwhelming dominance of the best player in the world over the rest. Between the beginning of 1984 and the French Open that year, the best players had big problem to even get five games in a set vs McEnroe! On a fast surface in Dallas, in nine sets McEnroe dropped four games only against the best server at the time – Curren! Mac’s service performance in the final was astonishing, effortlessly holding throughout (saved break points serving to win the first two sets), allowed him to make fun as a receiver improvising a lot. # The first of their three meetings of ’84 when McEnroe destroyed Connors in the “best of five” format.

McEnroe’s route to his 51st title:
    Q Vitas Gerulaitis 6-3, 6-1, 6-3
    S Kevin Curren 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
    W Jimmy Connors 6-1, 6-2, 6-3

    # Comparison of their three one-sided ’84 matches:
    Dallas (F): McEnroe d. Connors 6-1, 6-2, 6-3… 1 hour 40 minutes… Total points: 91-61
    F. Open (SF): McEnroe d. Connors 7-5, 6-1, 6-2… 2 hours 11 minutes… Total points: 102-71
    Wimbledon (F): McEnroe d. Connors 6-1, 6-1, 6-2… 1 hour 20 minutes… Total points: 83-42
