  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 26-25, 27-16 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    41 % Becker – 20 of 48
    26 % Wilander – 12 of 46

No-deuce match… The only final between these two great players, two tennis prodigies at the time: 18-year-old Becker [9] and 3 years older Wilander [3], a double defending champion. It was their second match, and it looked like a new great rivalry. It didn’t happen though, they played just 10 matches against each other (Becker 7-3), but none of them was dramatic, worth mentioning after the years. In that Cincinnati final, Becker delivered an awesome service performance, establishing a pattern of matches against Wilander – the Swede couldn’t deal with powerful serves of Becker, and it allowed the German to be more aggressive in return games, very often using chip-and-charge tactics.

Becker’s route to his 3rd title:
    1 Shahar Perkiss 6-2, 6-3
    2 Brian Teacher 6-4, 6-4
    3 John Sadri 4-6, 6-1, 6-4
    Q Hank Pfister 5-7, 6-1, 6-4
    S Joakim Nystrom 6-4, 7-5
    W Mats Wilander 6-4, 6-2

    * Becker served 57 aces in the entire tournament
